Purpose
ANCC is excited to present the 2010 Research Symposium to be held in conjunction with the ANCC National Magnet Conference. The purpose of this symposium is to advance research topics aimed at understanding the impact of professional nursing practice environments on patient, workforce, and organizational outcomes. The symposium provides a venue for researchers from various disciplines to share and discuss their latest research findings with colleagues and professionals in the healthcare community.

Highlights
Keynote speaker: Gloria J. Bazzoli, PhD

Dr. Bazzoli has a PhD. in Economics from Cornell University and is the Bon Secours Professor of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has led studies of the financial pressures affecting the hospital safety net and the effects of hospital mergers and closures on markets. She has also led several multi-year grant supported studies including a study funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality examining organizational and financial influences on hospital quality of care and, most recently, a study funded by the National Institutes of Health to examine the role of safety net hospitals in reducing racial and ethnic health care disparities. Dr. Bazzoli is the editor of Medical Care Research and Review.

Breakout panel sessions:
Concurrent sessions will present papers grouped by topic and include discussant commentary.

Call for Abstracts
Researchers from multiple disciplines in academic or healthcare settings are invited to submit an abstract to the symposium. Affiliation with a Magnet hospital is not required.

The call for abstracts will open February 15, 2010. Submissions must be based on completed research and will undergo peer review. Criteria for selection include quality of the research, potential significance, relevance to the purpose of the symposium, and clarity of the abstract. Continuing Education Contact Hours
Continuing education contact hours will be awarded to nurses who successfully complete this activity.

The American Nurses Association Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
