Shared Governance is an integral part of nursing professional practice in Magnet facilities. Studies have demonstrated numerous advantages of Shared Governance at the organizational and staff levels. Explore the history of its development, learn the benefits of Shared Governance and how to assess the level of Shared Governance within your organization. Nursing leadership, managers and staff nurses will gain knowledge and skills needed to institute and support Shared Governance at all levels of the organization.

  • Discuss the history and evolution of shared governance in nursing.
  • Relate shared governance to the forces of magnetism
  • Identify the benefits of shared governance to the staff and organization.
  • Assess the level of shared governance within your organization.
  • Discuss the roles of the nurse executive and manager in a shared governance professional practice model.
