Summary:
Organizations contemplating Magnet™ recognition realize change is the fundamental first step on their journey. This workshop facilitates an understanding of change in socially complex systems, such as hospitals, at the individual, group, and organizational levels. This workshop also examines strategies and activities to conduct gap analyses at the beginning of and during the Magnet™ journey. Participants develop techniques to engage staff during initiatives that involve change while realizing the challenges and rewards of effective change that support and sustain a Magnet™ culture.

Objectives:

• Describe basic theories about how change occurs in socially complex systems (e.g. hospitals) at the individual, group, and organizational level.
• Develop strategies and activities to conduct a gap analysis at the beginning of and during the Magnet journey.
• Integrate various change models to guide actions for achieving a culture of excellence.
• Utilize road mapping as a technique to convene and engage staff members during a change initiative.
• Identify the role and responsibilities of the change leader.
