Advanced Diabetes Management

Urgent Announcement
In 2001, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) collaborated to create the Advanced Diabetes Management Certification Program, which presently includes the following four certification examinations: Advanced Diabetes Management – Clinical Nurse Specialist; Advanced Diabetes Management – Nurse Practitioner; Advanced Diabetes Management – Registered Dietitian; and Advanced Diabetes Management – Registered Pharmacist. This program is being transferred to AADE. Accordingly, effective January 1, 2010, ANCC will no longer administer any of the four Advanced Diabetes Management certification examinations.

As part of the sale of the Advanced Diabetes Management Program to AADE, AADE will be responsible for all activities related to both initial certification by examination and renewal of certification, including but not limited to the application process, eligibility determinations, exam administration, score reporting, issuance of initial certification, renewal, and appeals.

ANCC is no longer accepting applications for certification in Advanced Diabetes Management. Individuals who already have applied to sit for one of the four Advanced Diabetes Management Certification Examinations must complete testing on or before December 31, 2009. After December 31, 2009, no new applications will be accepted until further notice; applicants should check the AADE web site for further information.

If you already hold valid ANCC certification in Advanced Diabetes Management, please be advised that you will be able to maintain your credential through renewal. If your certification expires on or before December 31, 2009, you must submit your renewal application to ANCC by December 15, 2009, to assure timely renewal. Renewal applications received by ANCC after December 15, 2009, will be returned to candidates and a full refund will be issued. If your certification expires after December 31, 2009, please contact AADE at education@aadenet.org for more information about how to renew your certification through AADE.

Beginning January 1, 2010, questions about verification of credentials should be directed to AADE at 1.800.338.3633 ext. 3, Member Services.

ANCC and AADE are working together to make the transition of this program as seamless as possible for all individuals who hold ANCC certification in  Advanced Diabetes Management. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition.

After December 31, 2009, if you have any questions or require services related to certification in Advanced Diabetes Management, please contact AADE at education@aadenet.org .
